The Vegetarians of Washington recently held their celebration of Vegetarians at Seattle Center (1962 World's Fairgrounds), and it was nothing less than a great success. Over 500 contributors donated food to the Vegetarians of Washington to be given out at this event, companies such as Odwalla, Truitt, Harbor Creek Farms, and Larabar. Admission was $8 for 12 years olds and up.
The event showcased different foods from regions across the planet. For instance, two Indian men were giving out a nut/seed mix ("the snack of India"), which personally I disliked. Another exhibitor had a large poster stating, "Say 'no' to Bread on Drugs" (Mike's Killer Breads).
The Event was very kid friendly. In fact, there was a section of sampling for those 12-and-under only. The kids could stamp 'like' or 'don't like' for each item to vote for them, although I think that the votes did not do anything.
On the West Wall, there were a variety of presentations from various chefs or other figures in the food community. The picture on the right of this page is Alan Roettinger, who was demonstrating a recipe for beans while talking about how he never, never brought cookbooks into the kitchen because he was supposed to be cooking, not reading.
The event was very crowded, and I strongly recommend the 2011 event if there is one scheduled.
